The Kenosha Fire Department Honor Guard was formed in 1995. The
team’s primary responsibility
is to represent the Fire Department at funerals of both active
and retired members. This would include offering any assistance
needed to the family of the deceased, providing pall bearers,
standing Honor Guard “watch” at the casket, posting
colors, ringing a fire bell “Last Alarm,” bagpipers,
fire truck display, and coordinating any logistical plans with
the funeral home.
If requested, the Honor Guard will travel to other cities to
both represent the Kenosha Fire Department and assist that department
with arrangements.
The Honor Guard also participates in various civic functions
when requested, such as flag raising ceremonies, veteran memorial
dedications, etc.
Participation in the Honor Guard is voluntary, utilizing personnel
both on-duty and off-duty.
In 2004, the Honor Guard participated in various events, including
funerals for two (2) Racine firefighters, two (2) Kenosha firefighters,
and one (1) Kenosha police officer. The Kenosha Fire Department
Honor Guard also went to Stone Park, Illinois for the two (2) firefighters
that lost their lives in a motor vehicle accident. In May
the Honor Guard participated in the dedication of the Public Safety
Memorial at Harbor Park .
