The Fire Prevention Bureau exists to prevent all loss of life and property by fire within the City limits of Kenosha. 

To meet this responsibility, the Bureau is charged with the following:

  • Conduct required inspections of property.
  • Enforcement of applicable fire codes, laws, and ordinances.
  • Maintenance of property files and inspection reports.
  • Investigate fires to determine origin and cause.
  • Investigate complaints from citizens regarding fire safety violations.
  • Conduct review of new building construction plans.
  • Conduct fire risk assessments.
  • Development and implementation of fire awareness educational programs for school children, special groups, and the general public.
  • View flammable and combustible liquids, tank plans and site assessments.
  • Provide bomb threat management and mitigation.
  • Collect, review and analyze statistical data related to fire incidents.
  • Grant writing.
The Fire Prevention Bureau is staffed by State of Wisconsin certified fire inspectors and the Division Chief of Prevention.  All Bureau personnel are certified in fire investigations, inspections, emergency medical technicians, and bomb technicians.
