The Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for determining the
origin and cause of all fires located within the City. Fire
investigations are conducted to comply with Wisconsin State Statute
that requires the Fire Chief to investigate all fire cause and
origin. Additionally, the information gathered assists
the Bureau in determining if unsafe construction practices are
present, juvenile firesetting activity, criminal activity
(arson), and product defects. This information then provides
the Bureau with invaluable information in determining the effectiveness
of current programs, assists in projecting the need for additional
programs, and assists in the investigation of crimes.
During the course of an investigation, investigators occasionally
work with agencies outside the fire service. The Kenosha
Police and Sheriff Departments, insurance companies, and consumer
product safety organizations are just a few that are routinely
worked with.
